When I started developing Ruby, it was one-man project. But Ruby had been lucky to be used by so many people. An analyst at Gartner group estimaded there were more than one million Ruby users around the world, and he projected four million Ruby users in the year 2013.
That number of users are now forming organic relationship, say, eco-system. They use Ruby for various purposes. Some uses Ruby for their personal projects, others use Ruby to run their business.
This conference focuses on sharing experience / information among people from different background. You will meet Ruby users from hobby users to, business people, from engineers to academic researchers. We wish you will find the new aspect of the Ruby eco-system from the conference.

Welcome to Shimane, where rich natural beauty and the culture and history of old Japan lives on strong. It is a great pleasure to welcome you here.
I am delighted that the RubyWorld Conference is being held here in Shimane for the second year running. The prefecture is working to train the next generation of IT engineers with Ruby at its core and to support businesses that actively work with Ruby. I hope to hear word of the success of these activities at this year’s conference.
Finally, I hope that this conference will take this opportunity to further expand the business use programming language.
Thank you very much.
Masataka Matsuura
(Mayor of Matsue City)
I am happy that the RubyWorld Conference will be held in Matsue for the second consecutive year. In Matsue ‘Ruby’ is a keyword symbolizing our efforts to create an ideal environment for IT specialists to operate with as much freedom as possible. The Matsue City initiated ‘Open Source Lab’, located in front of Matsue station, is host to a range of events and seminars mainly coordinated by Ruby specialists. With Matsue fast becoming the Ruby Mecca, we hope for the creation of new links and systems through the continued hosting of the biggest Ruby conferences. Matsue is a beautiful place referred to as the ‘Water City’. I would be happy to think you would take this opportunity to enjoy our wonderful city as well as the RubyWorld Conference. Thank you.
