Katsuya Hidaka joined Matsukei Co., Ltd located in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, in 2003. Since then, he has been responsible for constructing web-based business systems. Starting with his participation in the 2007 IPA “High Expense Totaling System” open project, he has been involved in business system design using Ruby and OSS, and has striven to expand the scope of Ruby use in the business system field.

It would be fair to say that report development is an important process in constructing any web-based business system, Ruby or otherwise. It is also an object of consternation for many developers. We believe that resolving this problem is an important step in promoting Ruby-based business system development. I will be discussing the current state of affairs in web system report development, the issues that affect it, and the open source “Thin Reports” software We have developed in order to resolve this problem.
